A month ago I changed the floor in my kitchen to guess what? –black and white tiles. Now when I sit at the counter having a cup of coffee or whatever, I feel a little like I am inside one of José’s paintings. People have always loved his black and white floors. So many places that we went to visit in Spain had them. Even the church in Alboloduy, Spain. Little wonder that he painted them so often.
You can experience this viewing pleasure by purchasing a delightful hand-embellished print with a black and white floor:
This one is called “Casa de Suenos” (House of Dreams). It is 48″ X 24″. A wonderful size that can lead to many interesting changes in your home. Give us a ring!
There will be an exhibit of Jose Antonio Valverde Alcalde’s artwork this coming Thursday, August 1st, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Going Coastal Gallery on Queen Street in Chester. Checkers and Flowers for a Romantic Afternoon, mixed media on canvas 36″ X 36″.
Blandford Bell , an enhanced pigment print on canvas is available from Going Coastal in Chester (Queen Street). The size is 33″ X 60 “. The price is $1600.
Traditionally José Antonio and I would open the gallery on the May long weekend. He also would have a solo show at Studio 21 that opened on the Victoria Day weekend when he exhibited there. Usually the weather was sunny and warm. Not today! Nevertheless this delightful floral painting will warm your hearts and bring us all fond memories of José:
“Begin the Beguine”, mixed media on canvas, 36″ X 36″. Call (902-453-0058)or e-mail me (firstname.lastname@example.org) for a viewing.
This floral is now available as an enhanced pigment print on canvas,36″ X 36″. The name is Etruscan Legends and Love Songs.

People have often been drawn to Jose’ Antonio’s work because of the dynamic size. I still have one of these spectacular works left:.This painting, “Cuban Landscape Near Vinales” is one of these paintings. It is 36″ x 36″ and would enhance the décor in any room
Thank you to everyone for attending Jose’s last exhibit. It was a wonderful tribute. Thank you also to the staff of the Teichert Gallery for making this possible. Unsold work is now in Chester or Halifax. Call for information (902-453-0588). Enhanced pigment prints are also available by order. Our daughter Maria Amelia Valverde, also an artist, is doing the enhancing.
All of Jose’s prints are still available through Going Coastal in Chester.
This small original painting was painted before Jose had his stroke. It was part of a series he did of his home town Zaragoza. As spring comes the tree will get foliage again. In the meantime it provides a commanding vista of the River Ebro.
Thank goodness we all survived the recent wind storm in Nova Scotia. Now that the weather is back to normal I will focus on a small treasure that Jose painted in 2010.
“Artist’s Patchwork” was a painting that was named by a client in one of our Name Dropping Exhibits. This delightful little gem on canvas is only 13″ X 18″ and is framed with a black frame. It fits nicely into small spaces and can cheer up even the most unhappy persona. As artwork is priced by size this small painting is within everyone’s budget.
On another note our Chester house is still for sale. Contact David Dunn at DavidDunn.ca, 902-209-9177 for more information.
Happy New Year from Jose and Doreen
